Cahir Day Care Centre – Sound Recordings

On our second visit to Cahir Day Centre we made recordings of the stories, memories and songs of growing up along the River Suir. Here are some of them. More sound recordings on the Sounds section of the blog.

Cahir Day Care Centre

The clients of Cahir Day Care Centre listened to sounds of the river and responded by making marks in clay.  These were then cast with  casting plaster.

Soundscape Experiment for hearSpace Project

This is my first experiment with editing recorded sounds together to create a short soundscape. This has now been submitted to hearSpace which is a new interactive piece of radio art composed for and through Irish radio by Karen Power. On March 23rd at 9pm, RTÉ lyric fm will act as a live conduit, through which Karen Power will compose and perform a new composition for radio based on the idea of exploring the sounds of a particular time, place and memory. Listeners were asked to spend some time listening to their spaces and to record a space that means something to them or carries some memory for them. Karen will work with these recordings and select some for use in this live radio work. Further information here: http://www.rte.ie/lyricfm/nova/

Cahir Day Centre – Workshop

We received a lovely warm welcome in Cahir Day Care Centre today and with two workshops planned with this group we spent today just meeting with everyone talking about the project and listening to their recollections, experiences and knowledge of the River Suir. It was a lovely afternoon of stories and song and we felt very privileged and moved by the experience and the sharing of memories.

River Suir at Golden Mirrored

)

With the River Suir swelled with the flooding I was mesmerised by the flowing patterns in the water – the dual flowing patterns.  By cutting the horizon line while videoing I feel this has a somewhat disorientating effect and focuses on the speed and patterns in the rivers movement, heightened by the monochromatic. I have experimented with mirroring the video so its direction is reversed and goes back on itself.
